LOCAL SPOTLIGHT SERIES #1
Save The Strange with guests Ten Minute Detour
Thursday April 6th 2017
We are excited to announce that we have started a new event series called the "Sudbury Spotlight Series" that will showcase upcoming new bands and some of Sudbury's favorite local talent. We heard that there are those who think Sudbury is the armpit of Ontario, and this series is set to prove them wrong and keep people up to date on what is happening with local artists. Monthly events will be held showcasing some of Sudbury's finest talent and bands you may now have known are right from your own hometown.
We are excited to announce that the first event in the series is featuring a band that has been itching to hit the stage for quite some time now, and are making their debut on the Asylum stage on April 6th.
Save The Strange is what some might call the latest "Supergroup" to form in Sudbury, Ontario. Formed in April of 2015, the band features members from many classic and memorable Sudbury bands including Sushi, Weatherly, Backroads, Hyland Drive, Konflit Dramatik, Breaking The Breakdown, Sex & Summer and Sulfur City. Although the band started in 2015, they did not start playing live shows until 2017 after spending some time to craft their music to what they envisioned it to be.
The band has influences from all over the musical spectrum including alternative, punk, emo/screamo, various forms of metal, and offers a fresh perspective on modern "rock" music. A unique aspect about the bands approach is that every member also contributes to the vocals to some degree while playing their instrument. With so many familiar faces in the band, and a varied number of styles among them taken from previous bands and their own personal musical influences, Save The Strange are only just getting started.
Ten Minute Detour, or better known as TMD, was formed in late 2014, using popular classified ad site, Kijiji. In the summer of 2015, the alt-blues warehouse rock band recorded and released its first full length LP, titled Lay It Down. Following its release, TMD hit the road, touring across Canada, supporting label acts such as One Bad Son, The Standstills, JPNSGRLS, Royal Tusk and The PISTOLWHIPS. In early 2017, TMD recorded in Nashville TN, working with producer Lincoln Parish, formally of Cage the Elephant. Look for a new record, summer of 2017.
