March Mayhem Is Upon Us!

Here we are for your dose of Asylum related news just in time for the weekend!

We have more new shows to announce, in fact we just posted a couple already on the website.  Speaking of the website, holy smokes have we got an update for you on that front in this newsletter.  We've been working on upping our e-Game and our website is turning into quite the music discovery mechanism, but more on that in a minute.

For bands, both local and not so local, we are implementing a New Booking System beginning about the time you read this. We want to start communicating with Artists PRO-actively instead of RE-actively, so we are starting a new club if you will. Let's just call it The Asylum's Inner Circle for now.

On top of this, we've got some heavy beats, heavy metal, a heavy birthday and heavy trippy rock coming at you over the next few days.  Best to enjoy this with some heavy drinks we think.   In general it's all pretty heavy, we don't do things light at The Asylum.  We like our periodic elements on the high density side. That's a joke for the singer of Blueshift, if he's reading this. They like science.

Alright, that's enough of the preamble ramble, ROLL THE INTRO...

Chris Broderick came to Sudbury to tell you The Asylum rules.

Ballistic Beats Tonight, March 10th!

We can't help but notice that a new night club is opening up right next to us. We do like the idea of the corner of Elm and Regent becoming a little more populated on weekends and look forward to seeing new faces popping in from around the corner to check out "That metal bar downstairs".

Night Clubs play crazy dance music. We've been known to like crazy techno. So we thought we'd try a pre-emptive strike into this market because we think that our dark halls and Lady Gaga remixes actually go hand in hand and we've just never tried it.

Therefore, tonight is The Asylum's 1st ever club night, Club Asylum 03-17, with an All Ages dance starting early in the afternoon for the kiddies.  That transmogrifies into a licensed event with some top local DJ's spinning beat heavy dance anthems and goes strong until they shut us down at 2am.

Looking for somewhere new to hang out tonight?  Bring some friends and come and check us out, the music is always loud and the fridge nicely stocked.

Whitenoiz, Desolate State, Archelon
The AsylumDesolate State and Archelon are like the Three Amigo's.   There is a 4th Amigo joining the fracas, Whitenoiz from Sudbury, headlining a Most Metal of local shows on Saturday night.

Don't waste your time trying to satisfy your urge for crunchy guitars on youtube this weekend, we've got exactly what you need at exactly the volume you need it at right here.  Hell, we even conveniently provide a licensed bar, complete with bartenders, just a few feet from the stage... can you believe your luck?

Check this trio of local headbangers out on our spiffy new updated website by clicking on these handsome looking faces below.  You can also click on the Giant Flying Dead Skeleton Archelon cause we thought it was pretty metal.

Streaming is nice, but sometimes you wanna cram some tunes on to a player and hit the road where the internet can't or won't follow. Thing is, finding those legit free downloads can be a pain, even more of a pain than paying $.99 for a track from a service!   So we hunt the interweebs looking for free downloadable music from our upcoming Artists for you!

This week, we'd like to present you with a ditty by bluesy rock band Blind Cats, who not uncoincidentally happen to be playing a show here next Saturday.

We selected this track because not only is it a free download, but it also sums up the general feeling of this author's current situation and brought me joy.

Massive Website Update!

The Asylum
We are happy to present the largest update to our website yet.

What started out as a meticulous attention to details ended up becoming an obsession in data entry over the last few weeks that all comes to fruition today. Full profiles for every band or artist that ever performed at The Asylum and for every show that we have ever hosted are now online.  Not kidding.

What do we mean by full profiles?  How about an entire social media overview of an Artist in a single glance without having to stalk them on the internet?

Act of Defiance
Facebook Band Page?  Check.
Twitter Account?  Check.
Youtube?  We got their videos right here.
Reverbnation?  Got it.
Soundcloud?  Yup.
Bandcamp?  Of course we've integrated our site with Bandcamp.

Live footage recorded from shows at The Asylum?

Pictures taken the night of the show?
Yep.  Posted on the website the next day.

The entire front page has been overhauled and now presents a virtual smorgasbord of musical goodness for you to take in. There's a new event calendar and a lot more to see and hear.  Go ahead and have a look around and get lost in the archives for a while, it's good times.

Open Mic Night On Tuesday March 14th

Rylan Stolar

It's that time of the month again! No no, not that time of the month, but it sure as hell is the March edition of the Asylum Open Mic Night, hosted by none other than the Mad Scientist Rylan Stolar himself! The last open mic night was really awesome, and it was great to see a bunch of new faces out showing off their stuff. No no, not that stuff...but it's really great to see the interest and diversity growing in Sudbury's local comedy scene!

Dear Bands, Artists and Promoters:

New Booking System

Announcing a new Asylum list just for you, an Inner Circle. If you sign up, The Asylum will begin reaching out to your band directly as to your availability to play headlining and support gigs and basically make sure that your band is always somewhere on the front page of The Asylum website as part of your relentless online self promotion strategies.

Just tell us who you are and who you represent and we'll consider you added to our booking matrix.  Expect to begin receiving personal emails from our staff to arrange performances on our young but already legendary and notoriously known stage.

The Asylum Community Efforts

We have another community effort underway at the end of the month, a Help Feed Sudbury Food-Raiser:

Lets raise some money and stock some shelves for our less fortunate brothers and sisters on the 31st.  Come out, bang your head and fill some stomachs!

Buy Your Anvil Tickets Online Now!

Buy Anvil tickets online here and be sure to check out their videos plastered around The Asylum's website for a good old blast of 80's Thrash Metal past.

And A Ruptured Birth-Day on Monday!

Ending the newsletter off on a happy note:  Twenty three years ago, our bartender Cody and his twin brother Cory arrived on our planet. We haven't yet decided who the evil one is. Come on out and help us figure it out and say "Hey Cody, Happy Birthday, thanks for being born man!"

One of these kids said "Science-Fiction based Grind Metal? That's for me. I should the learn the drums." shortly after this picture was taken.  Have a drink with him Monday!

Lastly, Be Smart:

Plan ahead and watch these bands this month!
