Formed in 2006, Wolven Ancestry was created by founding member Fraust, whom self produced and wrote the music for the entire debut album entitled “The Wrath of Gaia”. After writing the songs for the album, he tried out some vocalists in the area and decided upon the vocalist from a local band called Fleshcraft, whom recorded the vocals for the album outside during a snow storm in February using stolen power from a local business. Subsequently the local police arrived due to complaints of tortured screams in the area. After the band posted the album on Myspace, they gained a lot of interest on the website and received written fan mail from all over the world.
After finding additional members to play the instruments needed to perform the materials in a live setting, Wolven Ancestry was finally born and able to bring the music to a wider audience. It was not long before the band gained critical acclaim for their high energy theatrical live performances.and hard DIY touring mentality. After selling out of the initial copies of The Wrath of Gaia due to sales at shows while touring, the band decided to press the album through the vocalists record label, Archaic North Entertainment. Continuing to support the album, the band toured Eastern Canada with Rotting Christ in 2007, and in 2008 was invited to perform at the Heathen Crusade Festival in Minnesota, alongside Juno Award winning artist Woods of Ypres. Since both bands were from Northern Ontario, it was decided to book a US/Canadian tour together and spread the music of Northern Ontario Black Metal.
In 2009, the second album entitled “Silence of the Boreal” was self produced and also released through Archaic North Entertainment. The band continued to tour extensively, playing festivals and shows in support of the album which further solidified the band as an influential Canadian black metal band and hard working DIY band. Many new bands were forming in Eastern Canada at the time, and some stated that Wolven Ancestry was a big influence on their music. In 2012, after going on hiatus for nearly 2 years, the band announced that they would be bringing Negura Bunget, one of their influences and Romania's top metal band to Canada and the US for their first North American tour. It was announced that Wolven Ancestry would be direct support for the Eastern Canadian portion of the dates, and recorded the video for "March Forth Under Tortured Skies" on the Toronto date of the tour. The band went on hiatus again after the tour and members began focusing on other musical projects such as Fractal Generator, Fleshcraft, Finnr's Cane, Grim Mars and Amaranth.
In 2016, Wolven Ancestry announced that it would be making a special appearance at Sudbury Metal Fest 8 to close off the first night of the festival. The exclusive performance was to celebrate 10 years of the bands existence and the release of The Wrath of Gaia.
